Dr. Jeanne Jakob (aka “Jeannie” and “Jeanne Duax”) was born, raised, and trained in the Midwest and now calls the Bay Area her chosen home. She studied Psychology and English as an undergraduate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Upon graduating in 2001, she worked for three years as a full-time research assistant in two NIMH-funded research labs, one focused on identifying bipolar spectrum symptoms in college-aged students and the other identifying early precursors to mental health issues among inner-city Chicago preschool children. Jeanne completed the clinical psychology Ph.D. program at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), a scientist-practitioner program emphasizing evidence-based training in research and clinical assessment and intervention skills. Early in her training, she predominantly worked with children and families. As she progressed in graduate school and learned more about psychotherapy interventions, she sought diverse training and supervision experiences. Jeanne received state-of-the-art training in empirically-supported treatments (ESTs) such as CBT for anxiety and depression and Prolonged Exposure Therapy for PTSD. In addition to gaining expertise in ESTs, she received training and supervision in depth-oriented therapies (psychodynamic, humanistic, existential). These latter approaches informed her work with clients presenting with more complex, entrenched struggles, often stemming from a combination of biological predisposition/temperament factors, unprocessed family of origin dynamics, and identity/existential concerns.
Jeanne’s learning continued beyond receiving her Ph.D. in 2010. She actively pursues continuing education and consultation in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and other “third-wave” therapies, such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and self-compassion approaches. She participates in interdisciplinary consultation groups composed of therapists, neuropsychologists, and psychiatrists.
Jeanne is a mother to two sensitive, creative, and spirited children who are her greatest teachers and keep her grounded (and on her toes). In her free time, Jeanne enjoys quality time with family and friends, cultivating community connections, local and national political advocacy, writing, reading, music, movies, exercising, and yoga.
